Interferent Effect of Hydroxyurea on Continuous Glucose Monitoring

نویسندگان

چکیده

While currently available continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems have continually improving accuracy that has revolutionized modern diabetes care, potential medication interferences are recognized for all CGM (1). For Dexcom systems, hydroxyurea was recently as an interfering substance can falsely elevate sensor (SG) readings (2), but the data demonstrating this interference not been previously published. We report a patient with type 1 taking who experienced elevated SG values using G5 and G6 which led to recognition of interferent effect hydroxyurea. A 69-year-old woman insulin pump (Medtronic Paradigm Revel 723) real-time (initially G5, then G6) took (1,000 mg daily) treatment essential thrombocytosis. She noted that, approximately 6 h after hydroxyurea, measurements predictably markedly increased, even while fasting when time ingestion varied. In addition, management indicator (7.6%) based on 14-day average (170 mg/dL) significantly higher than concomitant glycated hemoglobin (6.3%, 45 mmol/mol), suggestive artifactual discordance. Subsequently, simultaneously wore …

Continuous glucose monitoring and pumps.

BACKGROUND While multiple daily insulin injections remains the state-of-the-art treatment for type 1 diabetes, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) has become increasingly popular in recent years. Up to 40% of people with type 1 diabetes in younger age groups are now using CSII. Very recently, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has been developed. This technology now has proven bene...

Effect of Lipohypertrophy on Accuracy of Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes

Repeated delivery of insulin in the same location induces a local reaction in the subcutaneous adipose tissue, often leading to lipohypertrophy (1,2). Advanced lipohypertrophy leads to slower, erratic insulin absorption due to the fibrous, relatively avascular nature of the tissue (3). Although lipohypertrophied tissue is commonly used for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor sites, the e...

Continuous glucose monitoring: coming of age?

In a recent issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, an Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline on Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) was published, co-sponsored by the European Society of Endocrinology. Such a guideline is a necessary step in the maturation of any new technology. This commentary tries to delineate where we stand some 10 years after the first retros...
